Say hello to Amando!

Earlier this autumn we had the pleasure of welcoming our new sysadmin, Amando, to Ny Media. Amando is originally from Portugal, but lives now in Bergen.

We've asked him five quick question to get to know him a little better.

How would you describe yourself?

A bit of a closet nerd.

What triggered your interest for development?

Got into robotics around age 9 with some kits, and started to wonder how I could load my own programs onto the microprocessors, the serial port made things easy at the time with PIC from microchip. Tried a few microprocessors and languages, mainly assembly and C. At one point I wanted to make a site to post my projects but didn’t really like blogger or wordpress. Figured if I could make a robot, a site would be trivial. When I realized I could monetize the site making, the career path became obvious. A previous team I worked with didn’t have anyone for operations, so I started to transition towards the ops side of things and realized I enjoyed it.

How does a normal day for you look like?

I wake up at around 7:30, eat breakfast, take a shower. Work until 16:30 or so, and then spend about 2 hours in the gym. After I come back home, cook dinner and practice some piano or read.

What is your interests outside of work?

I do a lot of sports, play the piano, and do some photography.

What is the best music experience you’ve had?

The diversity and style of Awolnation’s Megalithic Symphony keeps coming back to me.
